Beyond the Weekend: Powerful Prayers

Powerful Prayers A 7-Week Series | May 10–June 21

What does it really mean to pray?

Prayer is one of those things most people think about but aren't sure they're doing right. Is God actually listening? Does it matter what you say? Does prayer even work?

This series digs into some of the most powerful prayers in the Bible. From the Lord's Prayer to Daniel's cry in a crisis, we'll see what happens when ordinary people bring their real lives to God.

Whether you've prayed your whole life or you're not even sure God is real, this series is for you.

Growing in Knowledge

Read: Colossians 1:9-10
Listen: Colossians 1

So that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:10

Paul prays for the believers in Colossae to grow in the knowledge of God. The word he uses carries the idea of full, thorough, and experiential knowledge that changes a person from the inside out. Paul reaches for this same word in his prayers for believers in Ephesus and Philippi, too (Ephesians 1:17, Philippians 1:9). His purpose is clear. He desires to see believers transformed, not merely informed. God’s Word is the source of transforming knowledge that grows a worthy life. God makes himself known through his living, active Word that shapes his people. This is what Paul prays for the Colossians: that they would know God fully, deeply, and personally, resulting in worthy lives that please him.

This kind of deep, transforming knowledge is available to us, too. God gave his Word so we can know him, not just know about him. The more we organize our lives around Scripture, the more God shapes us through it. As we read, study, memorize, discuss with other believers, and gather to hear Scripture taught on weekends, our knowledge of and love for God deepens. God’s Word isn’t a box to check. It’s how we come to know him more fully and how he changes us in the process.

PRAYER DAY #44: Pray for yourself and the people you love to grow in knowledge of God by making his Word a priority. Ask him to show you where you need to change to make room for his Word. “Father, please grant me and _________ a lifelong desire to know you, making your Word central in our lives.”

Join us for PRAYER AND WORSHIP NIGHT happening this Thursday, June 25, at 6:30 pm at our East Paris and Knapp Campuses. We will spend time praying and praising God together.
